Artist Feature: Lotus (Minneapolis 2/9)

lotusbuild What’s up rave heads ? This weekend Minneapolis is being blessed with a show from the awesome electronic jam band, Lotus. The concert is going down at Mill City Heights and it is looking like it is going to be pretty amazing. The last time we saw Lotus was back in the summertime at Summerset Music Festival (in Somerset, WI). Lotus’s set stood out to us as one of the best moments of the entire festival. We stood there in awe along with our friends and fellow festival goers as the vibes of this amazing band flowed through us. It was a moment of perfect freedom. Lotus was originally formed at Goshen College in Indiana in 1999. There were five original band members (Mike Greenfield, Mike Rempel, Luke Miller, Jesse Miller and Steve Clemons) but it was not until Chuck Morris took over percussion in 2001 that the band became what it is today. Their first album, “Vibes” was released in 2002 and was actually just a simple compilation of their live performances in the year previous. Nonetheless, people quickly began to take notice and not long after they signed to Harmonized Records. They went on to produce several new albums, one of which, “Nomad”, was nominated for a “New Groove of the Year” award. The band then signed with SCI Fidelity and produced notable albums such as “Escaping Sargasso Sea” (nominated by Guitar Player magazine for “Best Album of the Year”) and “Hammerstrike”. Lotus is most known for their unmatched ability to mix sounds from many different genres including rock, electronica, jazz, jam, funk and others. If we had to pick one word to describe Lotus’s music is would be spiritual. Get out to one of their live shows and by the end you might just be a different person.

And if you haven’t been lucky enough to see them live, their currently on tour. Go check them out in Minneapolis tonight! At Mill City Nights. And get your tickets here.

We’ll let their song, “Colorado” do the rest of the talking from here:
